Rooted in Movement, Expressed in Paint
Aida Zadeh

My work is all about exploring abstract art in a hands-on, instinctive way. I love working with mixed media — especially acrylics — and I’m drawn to the unpredictability and freedom that abstraction offers. For me, painting is a space where I can experiment, get messy, and follow my curiosity without knowing exactly where it's going to lead.
A lot of my process is about letting go of control. I often let gravity play a role — letting the paint drip, move, and find its own path on the canvas. I never fully plan what a piece will look like when I start. I follow my instincts, reacting to the shapes, colors, and textures as they happen. That spontaneity keeps the process exciting for me — and hopefully it makes the work feel alive for others too.

Lately, I’ve been exploring how abstract and figurative elements can meet in one piece — kind of like mixing reality with emotion or memory. I like when a painting makes you pause and wonder what you're looking at, or how it makes you feel. My hope is that people bring their own interpretation to it — there’s no right or wrong way to see it.
I was born in Tehran, Iran, grew up in Germany, and now I live and work in the heart of Maastricht, the Netherlands. All of these places have shaped who I am and how I create. At the end of the day, painting is just something I feel deeply connected to — it’s my way of processing the world and connecting with others without needing to say a single word.
